Register a Website Domain Name
It's time to register your website domain name. Once you've worked out a strategy and the kind of products or services to sell, you will need to register and set up your website. There is no point fiddling, you're unlikely to make it any better, and you might even make it worse. Not only that but you could incur a lot of time wastage and opportunity cost in terms of revenue forgone if you start changing your strategic blueprints after a short time.
But register your website domain name only after you've worked out your strategy and other preparatory work. Don't make the mistake of other home based online business owners who registered the domain name even before doing the necessary preparatory work. It's like the proverb 'look before you leap'. Look, look long and hard to decide on the idea for the products or services you intend to sell and keywords you intend to use. Leaping means acting on all the information you gathered. Prepare your contents blueprint for the site and how you intend to monetize and make money from your website. Once you have decided to leap, get on with it.
Once you have formulated your internet marketing plan, your objective, your strategy, your niche market, goals and targets, it's time to register your website domain name. Choosing your domain name or URL (or Uniform Resource Locator) is an important (though not the most critical) component for the success of your online business.
Your website domain name or url is just one of the many criteria that will affect your ranking on the search engines. In essence, search engines consider many factors when ranking a website. The domain name is just one of those criteria. So, don't worry too much..... But your domain name or URL does affect the ease at which your prospective customers can find you. So, don't rush through it. Spend some time on it.
I am not going to name your website domain name on your behalf because I think only you yourself can do it. No one can help you at this. I don't know your business more than you do. No one has access to information about your business more than you do. So, you have to do it. But there are some points worth bearing in mind: - Always consider your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) when designing your domain name. Your unique selling proposition describes the value of your product or service to the customer, the benefits that stands out from your competitors and that really matters to your prospects.
- Best to have your domain name containing the main keywords that your potential customers use to search for you.
- Your domain name should be easy to spell and remember. Imagine if you tell your prospects that the url for your site is hygroscopic.com. I bet some people will key in the name as 'hydroscopic' and you will lose valuable traffic.
- A shorter domain name is better. However, it's not a strict requirement.
- Always consider if you like the domain name because you will be 'married' to it for many years to come.
